The phones of today have come a long way. When I was just graduating from high school, I remember my first cell phone was a Sony Ericsson, black and white screen, and was state of the art because it was backlit and you could text on it. The only thing color on this phone was the greenish LEDs that powered the back light. No stereo quality speakers, just a midi ringtone system.
Now, in today’s society, phones are literally rivaling personal computers as far as computing speeds, functionality, and even A.I. counterpart assistants. Google has the Google Now system, Apple has the Siri system, and now Microsoft has entered into the realm of A.I. with Cortana.
Yes, you read that right, Cortana. Cortana will be an A.I. assistant for Microsoft’s future smart phones, tablets, Xbox consoles, and personal computers. The software behind Cortana is based on the same system that powers the Bing search engine. It will be adaptive A.I. in that it will learn from you and adjust itself to fit your needs. It has yet to be confirmed on when Cortana will make her debut but rumors suggest it will be released with the Windows 8.1 update.
I have been trying to decide on what phone to get next but I think with this announcement, my vote has been swayed to a new Windows Phone. Let’s face it, Cortana could kick all of their asses in a fight. The biggest question of all will be this…”what will happen to our A.I. after 7 years?”
If you don’t get that joke you need to go back and play Halo 4.
